10/02 TVET MINDSET Index (TMI)

The TVET Mindset Index (TMI) is a comprehensive tool designed to evaluate and compare the perception of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across different countries. Focusing on three key dimensions—Cultural Value of TVET, Economic Perception of TVET, and Influence of Role Models and Success Stories—TMI aims to provide insights into the attitudes and motivations that drive or hinder participation in vocational education.

1)      Cultural Value of TVET assesses societal respect and acceptance of vocational training.

2)      Economic Perception of TVET evaluates the perceived economic benefits of vocational education. It considers factors such as job readiness, employability, financial incentives, and career prospects associated with TVET programs.

3)      Influence of Role Models and Success Stories measures the visibility and impact of successful TVET graduates.

Integration of TVET MINDSET Index Components with Areas of Studies Discussed in Posts 10/01:

To gather data for the TMI, the following sources will be utilized:

  1. Existing Studies:
    • Research reports and academic studies focusing on the state of vocational education in Malaysia will be reviewed to provide contextual background and additional data points. These studies often include surveys and analyses conducted by educational institutions and research organizations.
  2. Government Reports:
    • Official publications from the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR), Ministry of Education (MOE), and other relevant governmental bodies will be examined to understand policy impacts, funding mechanisms, and enrollment statistics. These reports provide authoritative data on the current status and outcomes of TVET programs.
  3. Media Analysis:
    • Coverage of TVET-related topics in Malaysian media will be analyzed to assess the portrayal of vocational education and the prominence of TVET success stories. This includes analyzing news articles, opinion pieces, and features in newspapers, television, and online platforms.

By integrating data from these varied sources, the TMI offers a robust and nuanced understanding of TVET perceptions in Malaysia. This comprehensive approach ensures that the evaluation captures the multifaceted influences shaping attitudes towards vocational training, enabling the development of targeted strategies to enhance TVET's status and effectiveness.

And so we begin…
